• Using google books. I have found many of Ozanam’s works and works about him in Google books

    http://www.google.com/search?q=frederic+ozanam&tbm=bks&tbo=1

Many of these are out of print or hard to get and you can save them as pdfs for future reference. You can also view them as text files and use google translate to get a very rough idea…[Read more]

  • I was on vacation in Paris last week and while I was there I was able to go to our International Office. They gratiously let me use their library and I was able to study the work that Fr. Jarry did on Emmanuel Bailly. It was very instructive and I will add the information to my article on the SVdP founders on FamVin. I may soon do a stand alone…[Read more]

    • This is very interesting. If you took any pictures while you were there I would be glad to try putting together some type of brief video presentation on Bailly using any script you might be able to provide.

Oh, Oh – another error ”In 1831 he was presented with an opportunity when Victor Cousin, Minister of Public Education, offered him a position in the Collѐge de Orleans.” This was in 1838 or 39. I also see a couple of other problems. I am wondering if the translation needs reviewing by someone familiar with Ozanam’s life.

I was reading a bit of the first installment online and noticed that it claims Frederic’s brother was ordained at the age of 18. I am sure that this is incorrect. I am wondering if it was mistranslated and was maybe when Frederic was 18. Fr Ron will know.

thanks this is interesting. I also read that Alphonse was ordained deacon by bishop de Quelen. Is there any evidence that this family relationship made it easier for Frederic when he was in Paris to get a hearing from the bishop for his idea for the Notre Dame Sermons? Or was Paris catholic community just small enough that the bishop would have…[Read more]

  • I am working on some of the prehistory of the Society for my New Orleans talk. In Gerard Cholvy’s book “Frederic Ozanam, L’engagement d’un intellectuel catholique au XIX siecle” there is this quote on page 240 –
