We encourage you to use ooVoo among yourselves, especially during the first 30 days (free trial period) when you can have up to 6 persons communicating with one another at the same time, including video images of each person. This is an excellent way for you to become more familiar with ooVoo.

We may check with you periodically to see how the experience of mentoring is going. We will be interested in difficulties you are having, what we can do to improve the e-mentoring experience, and offering any troubleshooting. For the first two to three weeks, we will do this once a week at a time convenient for each grouping of mentors.

    Some practical considerations:

    1. Avoid noisy rooms where your microphone will pick up ambient noise. Do not have the radio playing in the background.

    2. Allow for plenty of light in the room so the mentee can see you well.

    3. Do not wear any clothing with tight patterns or pin stripes. This causes an optical illusion called a moiré pattern which makes your image look distorted.

    4. Direct cable or fiber optic is better than a wireless connection. There is more of a lag time when using a wireless connection.

    5. Webcams – See the following URL for reviews.

ooVoo is changing the way people communicate and connect online with its high-quality video and audio. It’s an application similar to Skype or iChat, but features a lot more video functions. Besides one-on-one video chats and calls, you may also hold group video conversations with up to six people talking face to face with each other at the same time. Using ooVoo is easy and fun; all you need is a computer, a broadband connection and a Web camera. In addition, ooVoo offers video recording, video messaging to an email, text messaging, and file sharing.
